Technology Takeover: It Means Good Business
The kitchen was tiny but tidy, a top the stove sat the coffee pot. Turn on the stove, and soon you’d see through the clear knob of the lid, coffee grounds rising to the top. Gurgling sounds would ensue until brewing was complete. In time, a new version would be available to coffee lovers. The percolator plugged into the electric outlet worked its magic to provide a good cup of joe. It would gurgle still but was quicker in brewing. Over time, Mr. Coffee® became the rage. A ‘coffee maker’ that could be programmed to make a few cups or the entire pot. It had a glass carafe. Of course, there was Bunn® too, with the stainless-steel pot. You could be brewing coffee at home just like your favorite restaurant for breakfast used. It would seem that our morning coffee ritual was becoming more convenient as it took less time to make.
Technology was advancing in all aspects of home living. Gas or electric stove, microwave ovens that cooked things quicker than a conventional oven, cordless phones that had a base with a battery charger rather than a phone placed on a table or attached to the wall. And boom, then came the answering machine. Just leave a ‘message’, the phone call would be returned when back at home. Technology was taking over; the companies of these products understood there was a demand for convenience by the customer. Knowledge of your customers’ needs and wants is critical. Innovation is essential in business.
In the work place, double burners with automatic drip for regular coffee and an automatic drip for decaffeinated coffee was the back drop for the social hub among co-workers. And for those who didn’t drink coffee, they sought out the vending machine for their beverage and/or snack of choice. Convenience in the workplace is occurring.
Technology continued to reign supreme for decades in the workplace: Xerox® machine allows copies of documents to be produced at exponential speed, good bye to carbon paper; the computer replaces the typewriter, multi phone lines replace single source phone lines “hold please”, the ‘pager’ allows you to be notified immediately. Convenience and efficiency of the employee are the goal. Technology takeover had allowed the workplace to adapt to the demands of an everchanging business climate.
Today’s business climate is vastly different from previous decades. Localized business relationships are no longer the norm, rather global relationships have emerged steadily. Timely interaction with suppliers to meet customer demands is imperative, technology makes the interaction convenient, it provides efficiency and increases productivity. Technology allows the workplace to track expenses better. Customer experiences are enhanced as technology today allows for greater interaction on a timelier basis. Customers today require relationships with the business they seek out!
Every industry, every sector of business today is realizing change. Technology is being used in many facets of business from managing HR functions while including areas of business development, customer service, customer relations, workplace safety and credentialing and training. Technology Takeover means good business; business owners who understand this and embrace it realize the following benefits:
• Technology allows employees to have better time management which gives more efficiency to the worker and this impacts productivity in a positive way. Technology takeover means good business and enhances the work experience of employees. This has a direct correlation to positive customer service and relations.
• Work environments are far less compartmental as in earlier decades. Todays technology affords workers to interact frequently and timely. Business owners are realizing that technology means good business because employees can communicate with one another, suppliers and others quicker to address emergent business needs and/or customer needs. Communication has a direct impact on business development relationships. Technology takeover means good business.
• Business development means growing your business by adding new products and/or services while increasing profitability. Technology takeover means good business because it provides cost management opportunities for success. Inventory can be controlled better using technology, business development measures related to inventory for example, can be determined more accurately. Projections, expenses and revenue can be viewed on real time basis which allows for better decision-making regarding business development. Technology takeover means good business.
• Implementation of technology in business today provides business with efforts to be more ‘secure” in their day to day operations as the workplace becomes more global and is open to more cyber threats. Technology takeover means good business. As more businesses develop e-commerce sites with the growth of on-line purchases, technology is valuable. The customer experience is more likely to be a better experience because of safeguards in place to secure their privacy, etc. Customers today require positive relationships when doing business.
• Many businesses have provided customers with the ability to use an App that has been designed for that particular business. Local veterinarian for example or, local hardware store, or restaurant ensuring customer relations via “loyalty plans”. Technology takeover means good business.
• QR Codes are becoming a constant piece of the customer experience. These “quick response codes” give valuable information to the customer as well as the business owner. Analytics are valuable to determine a campaigns success. Local and small business can benefit tremendously using QR Codes. Technology takeover means good business.
Technology implemented in business and throughout the workplace today is beneficial for business development and staff development. It enhances the cultural aspects of doing business today in a global economy.
