Be Focused in Business, Your Vision Depends on It
Sitting in your office, you begin to look around. What you are seeing seems to look a bit out of focus. You move forward as you look at the wall adjacent to the window. Hmm, you think again, that view out window looks different too. Maybe it’s because you’ve had a long day. You’re thinking the ‘new customer' projections you’ve starred at most of the afternoon have blurred your vision. They were off target. Business seems to be non-existent you think. You lean back in your chair, fold your arms, take a deep breath and realize getting new customers will not be as easy as it had been. Deep breathe and think what to do now, decisions, decisions and more decisions. You turn your chair around in circles a few times, faster each turn hoping it puts things back into focus; to no surprise it didn’t.
Business owners always make decisions. It’s a requirement when owning a business. The health and vitality of any business depends on sound and smart business decisions. My scenario above illustrates that situations come up that don’t always fit what we envisioned. Addressing “blips” through out the day can be common; addressing the larger issues, ‘getting your new customer target’ back to its goal, can be blurred with lack of focus. The larger issues are often daunting; they don’t have to be with a clear focus. Clear focus is achievable with a well-developed Business plan. If you ever watched professional dart tournaments, you see precision in throwing the dart. The focus remains on the target ‘bulls eye’ because of the dart throwers vision. Their vision bull eye, their mission, throw the dart with speed and agility to achieve the Goal, winning the match or tournament. *
Vision in business aligns with your Mission and both align with the Goals of your business. These are critical elements that must be a part of your Business Plan. All business owners MUST have a strategic plan that is detailed, contains Goals and Objectives for success. The importance? It will keep you from developing blurred vision by diverting your time, energy, and money on the unimportant tasks. Business growth is achieved when business owners avoid situations that have the potential to distract from the Vision, Mission and Goals of the strategic plan. *Be focused in Business, Your Vision Depends on It.
Customers are the foundation of any business. They purchase the goods and services and expect value with exemplary customer service. Listening to customers is necessary so that meeting their expectations occur routinely per your business plan. Being more attentive to the needs of the customer would have prevented the ‘new customer” projections to be off target in our scenario. **
As a business owner, strategies that corrected the significant downward trend could have been impactful. Timeliness is critical in such a situation. Blurred vision by not paying extra attention to customer trends negatively impacted the quarter. Customer projections likely would have been down due to the corona virus, but knowing the significance earlier would have allowed for a strategy to provide a solution to reduce the negative impact.
People, employees, suppliers, and delivery folks, anyone that is associated with your business is important to the customer perspective. It’s important that people understand your Vision, Mission and Goal so they can positively impact your business success. If their vision is or becomes blurred, your focus is lost, and the issues arise. Reach out to people important in day-to-day operations; schedule that task in your calendar. Stay in touch and informed so timely solutions can be identified and implemented. The task being referred to will require a process that will be integrated in a seamless way. This ensures that a check and balance exists so that your Focus is clear because Your Vision in Business Depends on It. Remember, your Vision in business aligns with your Mission in business to successfully meet your Goals in business.
Sitting in your office, you begin to look around. What you see is how awesome your office seems. You move forward as you look at the wall adjacent to the window. Hmm, you think again, that view out window looks amazing. It is has a motivational view, too! Maybe it’s because you’ve had a long day and you are glad to finally relax. Or it’s because you feel empowered and confident that you can provide a good solution to address the ‘new customer’ projections that were off. Aside from the corona virus playing a role, the decision to offer some new products needs a decision.
You lean back in your chair, fold your arms, take a deep breath and realize getting new customers will be different slightly but adding new products NOW rather than later is critical. Deep breathe and say, “let’s get it resolved!”
You order the new products and schedule delivery. Your Webmaster sets up your e-commerce sight. Decisions and more decisions, as you need to let staff know you are adding new products to gain new customers. You must set up trainings on new products. You turn your chair around in circles a view times, slower each turn as it puts things back into focus. Be Focused in Business, Your Vision Depends on It.
